About Justin Saunders, MD
Dr. Justin Saunders is the son of retired local comprehensive ophthalmologist Dr. John Saunders and the grandson of the late Dr. Joseph Saunders.
Dr. Justin Saunders graduated from Tates Creek High School in 1998 and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. He then attended the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Dr. Saunders completed his Ophthalmology residency at West Virginia University where he was named Chief Resident and earned honors for highest OKAP score, Most Outstanding Teacher and Resident of the Year. Dr. Saunders spent the next two years as a Fellow in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery at the world-renowned Emory University Eye Center.
While in Atlanta, Dr. Saunders was on staff at six area hospitals and performed over 1,600 cases as primary surgeon. Since returning to Lexington in 2014, Dr. Saunders has performed thousands of procedures and enjoys carrying on his family tradition of providing excellent care to patients in the Bluegrass area.
